For the second year in a row, The J. Frank white Academy has a record enrollment. Even though the growth is positive, it does come with complications.

With over 160 students compared to last year’s 135, growing pains are occurring. One place where the growth can be most felt is the cafeteria. While fairly crowded last year, the addition of even more students has given lunch time a feeling of organized chaos, with Academy students taking half of the cafeteria. Junior Isaac Williamson was asked how the cafeteria could be better organized. Isaac replied with, “If we divided lunch times from the lower and upper classmen, we would reduce the crowding to a massive degree.” School administers have considered this option but for the time-being the cafeteria staff wants all Academy students to eat at the same time because a large influx of university students comes to the cafeteria around noon just as the Academy students are leaving.

As can be expected with a growing enrollment, the hallways are more crowed. Naturally, some returning students long for the days when the hallways were less crowded. Sophomore Tipton Hembree was asked how this could be resolved. “I think that it could be resolved by staggering the times that the students are let out of class, even by a minute or two.

The faculty is having to reevaluate situations differently with the growth of the school. School custodian Ginger Overton is being gracious about the growth and now has to clean more frequently than before.

Geri Marcum who is administrative assistant for the principal was sent a list of questions about how much more work the enrollment growth has added to her work day. Her reply: “A lot, I will respond when I get time to.” Even though she is obviously busier than before, at least she still has her sense of humor.
